Ethiopia Chief of Staff of the Army, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula officially stated that ‘from today there is no organization and structure called regional special force’ in Ethiopia.
The ongoing restructuring of regional forces has been appraised in the presence of military generals, top officers of federal police and senior officials of regional governments.
On the occasion, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula the restructuring of regional special forces would help build strong multinational security institution.
The work of transporting regional Special Forces to their assigned places and putting them into training based on their choices of reintegration will start, he stated.
Ethiopia’s security structure will therefore consists of the national defense, federal police and regional police, and that that there will be no force that accepts missions from a chain of command under regional Special Forces, the Chief of Staff of the Army added
The announcement comes less than a week after Ethiopia dissolved the controversial regional state special forces including the “notorious” Somali Liyuu Police”
