Horndiplomat-The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) elects longtime foreign secretary Abdirahman Mahdi as the new chairman following a conference in Godey town as the incumbent Admiral Mohamed Omar Osman retires. Mahdi received 340 votes, his challenger Ahmed Yasin got 247.
The leadership election comes after the Ethiopian Government and ONLF inked a historic deal in Asmara late 2018, agreeing to establish a joint committee to discuss substantive issues pertaining to the root causes of the conflict in the Somali region through continuous engagement.
