Somalia will not participate Consensus Building Meeting in Nairobi-Villa Somalia Chief of Staff
Horndiplomat-Villa Somalia Chief of Staff Dr. Nur Dirie Hersi has confirmed that Somalia will not attend the expected meeting between Somaliland and Somalia in Nairobi.
“Somali govt representatives will not participate in the expected Consensus Building Meeting in Nairobi. However, we would like to confirm that the govt is committed to engage in constructive dialogue with Somaliland when a suitable venue, agenda and participants are agreed.”Said Nur Dirie Villa Somalia chief of Staff.
The Center for Human Dialogue will host the consensus building meeting to review facilitation efforts between Somaliland and Somalia and highlight key success and failures to date.

Somaliland the listed participants include the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Yasin Hagi Mohamoud Hiir (Faratoon), Somaliland’s Representative to Kenya, Mr. Bashe Omar and the Director of Civil Aviation Captain Abdi Rodol.
For Somalia, participants include President Mohamed Abdillahi Farmajo’s Chief of Staff Dr Nur Dirie and his assistant Mr Abdisatar Gelle.
Meanwhile,Top officials from international community including the UK Head office Hargeisa Mr. Stewart Brown, The EU Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa Ambassador Alexander Rondos, USAID Mission Director to Somalia Mr. Jeffery Bakken,Ambassador Mohamed Guyo IGAD Special Envoy for Somalia and the Red Sea ,the Swedish Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Ambassador Urban Anderson as well as the Turkish Envoy for Somalia – Somaliland talks Dr Oglan Bekar will also participate in the Consensus Building Meeting between Somaliland and Somalia.
The talks began in 2012 when the London Conference on Somalia, held at Lancaster House on February resulted in a communiqué. Pre-talks communique emphasised “the need for the international community to support any dialogue that Somaliland and Somalia’.
The Somaliland-Somalia hit a deadlock several times over technical issues. Both Somalia and Somaliland governments are keen to resume talks.
