Mahmoud Soufi, ex Qatari footballer, and one of the best head-to-head strikes at the Gulf level, where he played for Al Gharafa, Al Arabi, Sadd and Marrakih clubs, died Yesterday(June 2, 2019) at the age of 48.
He was born on October 20, 1971. He was ranked third in the league’s top scorer position in 1991 with 50-year-old Adel Khamis Al Nubi and Al-Ahly Hassan Spaila and played with Al Gharafa and moved to Al Arabi in the 99/2000 season.
One of his most important achievements with Qatar’s national team was the Gulf Cup in 1992, and winning the ‘top scorer’ accolade in the Gulf. Mahmoud also participated in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and scored a goal against Colombia.
He played for the Qatar national football team from 1988 to 1999 and is the country’s top scorer in the history of the World Cup qualifiers with 12 goals from 20 meetings starting with Jordan in 1989 in Doha.
