Eritrean President Receives Somaliland Envoy to the UN

Horndiplomat-Eritrea President Isaias Afwerki received in his office Dr Mohamed Warsame Duale Somaliland envoy to the UN. Horndiplomat reports

President Isaias Afwerki accompanied by Mr Osman Saleh Eritrean Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides held discussions centring on boosting the cooperation between Somaliland and Eritrea.

Somaliland Special Envoy to the UN and other international organizations Dr Duale arrived in the Eritrean capital, Asmara on Sunday.

Sources confirmed Somaliland President Muse Bihi expected on”state visit soon” to Asmara.

On March 18, Senior Eritrean delegation comprising Mr Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Presidential Advisor Mr Yemane Gebreab visits Somaliland.

The delegation met and held talks with Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi who expressed appreciation for the initiative Eritrea took. The President also briefed the delegation on the objective situation in Somaliland and its stance on various issues.

According to the Eritrean Information Ministry(Shabait), The objective of the visit of the Eritrean delegation is to begin engagement with Somaliland as part of the promotion of regional peace.

Meanwhile, Eritrea has joined countries that have shown interest in facilitating prospective talks between Somalia and Somaliland.

Somalia deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohamed Guled sees Asmara’s role in Somalia-Somaliland talks “important”, saying the East African nation is working to bring both sides to negotiating table.
