Ethio-Kenya Joint Border Commission meeting kicked-off in Adama City, Ethiopia earlier today (February 12).
The two-day session will focus on ensuring in intra-border security, stemming illegal weapons flow and human trafficking, enhancing border trade in a bid to benefit the border communities, cooperation on health and education as well as strengthening people to people ties between the communities on both sides of the border.
The meeting also aims to assess the implementation of the various agreements reached at the 31st edition of the Joint Border Commission meeting.
On the occasion, Mrs. Teyiba Hassen, Vice President of the Oromia Region noted that the relationship between Ethiopia and Kenya as longstanding and one based on solid foundation, and the peoples of the two countries are tied by blood, culture and tradition. Mrs. Teyiba also underlined the importance of joint efforts to ensure security along the border as well as improve the socio-economic wellbeing of border communities
Moffat Kangi, Border security Secretary said the bilateral ties and longstanding cooperation between Ethiopia and Kenya is exemplary to the countries in the region. The two countries are working together to ensure that their common borders are corridors of peace and prosperity.
Ethiopia and Kenya maintain time-tested relations.
