Ethiopia, Germany Keen to Bolster Ties

State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs, Hirut Zemene met with the German Minister of State, Mrs. Michelle Muntefering later on Tuesday (January 22)
State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs, Hirut Zemene met with the German Minister of State, Mrs. Michelle Muntefering later on Tuesday (January 22) on the margins of the EU-African Union Ministerial meeting being held in Brussels, Belgium.
They discussed on the upcoming visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and opportunities to boost the business relations between the two countries. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to visit Ethiopia next week on Sunday (January 27).
Mrs. Hirut said, “We are looking forward to welcoming the President. We are very grateful for his visit.” Noting that President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is also heading a German business delegation, State Minister Hirut said, “This will further strengthen the business and investment ties between the two countries.”
Mrs. Michelle on her part noted said the delegation includes some Anchor German’s companies and expressed her hope that they will sort out an opportunity to be part at the current liberalized economic sectors.
In addition, Mrs. Hirut had a meeting with Ms. Harriett Baldwin, Minister of State for Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Minister of State for International Development.
Mrs. Hirut appreciated the UK’s bilateral assistance, which she said, was the best in quality and size.
She also welcomed the UK’s productive engagement in the Horn of Africa. The State Minister briefed Ms. Baldwin on the ongoing economic and political reforms in Ethiopia. They exchanged views on the current situation in the Horn of Africa.
Harriett invited #Ethiopia to take part at the UK-Africa Investment Forum which will be convened in UK .
Furthermore, State Minister Hirut had a sideline meeting with Romanian State Secretary, Mrs.Monica Gheorghita. They discussed on how to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries. Mrs. Hirut recalled the Political Consultations held between the two countries last year and expressed her country’s interest to strengthen relations with Eastern Europe countries. She expressed Ethiopia’s readiness to work with Romania during its presidency of the EU.
Mrs.Monica said that Romania wants to work closely with Ethiopia and will upgrade its missions in Addis to an Ambassadorial level. Now it’s at charged affaire level. She invited Ethiopian delegation to visit Bucharest.according to Ethiopian Foreign Ministry
