Annual Media Summit and Awke Award 2018 commencement meeting will have discussed positive and negative impacts on Somaliland journalists. At the end of the two days meeting awards will have offered the winners of the program’s competition.
The Somaliland Ministers of Information, telecommunication, Director general of information ministry, Political parties, and The 200 Journalist across Somaliland Religions attended the Somaliland Media Summit.
The chairman of Somaliland journalist association Mr.Mohamoud Abdi Jama aka “Xuuto” and Director of Somaliland Journalist Association Yahye Mohamed Abdi “Xanas” thanked the regional media delegates that participated in the conference.

Mohamoud Abdi Jama also added
“18 cases were registered in Somaliland which focuses on illegal or legal violation of journalism code of conduct.”Said Somaliland Journalist Association chairman
“Solja won to create journalists a new opportunity of an undergraduate degree in journalism and mass communications at the University Of Hargeisa, the United Kingdom through UK AID DFID have been paying for the student’s tuition fees to attend journalism and mass communication at the University Of Hargeisa,” said Yahye Mohamed Abdi Director of Solja
The Somaliland Ministers of Information and Technology commented the media role of the national building and the government role of the media development.
“Media is the fourth pillar of the state, it also plays a role the government accountability when there is accurate fact” Minister of Telecommunication and technology.

Somaliland Media stations have been increasing dramatically particularly digital media (websites), today, there are about 15 newspapers, 20 above Tv stations, One Radio, dozens of websites providing news to citizens, More than thousands of Journalists practice journalism and work either for media station or are self-employed (free license journalists). The growing number of media stations promoted the democratic status of the country, connected Somaliland local and Diaspora to political development and increased investment by Diaspora to the country.
