Ethiopia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland today signed two grant agreements amounting £176 million.
Admasu Nebebe, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation and Mrs. Harriet Baldwin, Minister of State for Africa signed the agreement here in Addis Ababa.
As per the agreement, £110 million of the grant is to finance the Ethiopian general education quality improvement program for equity GEQIP-E), while the remaining £66 million grant is to support the Ethiopian investment advisory facility (EIAF) phase II project.
According to the first agreement, the grant will offer support to the government of Ethiopia to improve the quality of education children and young people receive using a result based approach to drive performance.
The program is targeting disadvantaged learners, including children with disability, in pre-primary, primary, and secondary education, particularly in under-performing regions such as Somali, Afar and Benshangul Gumuz, regional states
The £66 million grant is allocated to enhance the effectiveness of public investment management and improve the enabling environment for exporters in Ethiopia to promote outward orientated and manufacturing-led inclusive growth in Ethiopia.
