Somaliland:Hargeisa Court Sentences Cleric Over Terrorism Allegations

Horndiplomat-Hargeisa regional court sentenced to five years in prison with Sheikh Adan Abdirahman Warsame AKA (Adan Sunne) over charges related encouraging public demonstrations. The court also sentenced other 18 youths to between 9 and 1 year of imprisonment.

Sunne has been arrested many times and lastly in September last year and he has been in the jail since that time. A Police spokesman said, “the police forces have captured in operation the man called Adan Sunne who made a strong resistance against police after he mobilized a group of men and women who fought against the police”.

Somaliland declared its independence nearly three decades ago from Somalia, but despite having its own currency, parliament, military and legal system The territory has been experiencing stability and economic prosperity and has been influential in the fight against piracy and terrorism in the Horn of Africa.
