Horndiplomat- Somaliland government delegation led by the deputy minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation Liibaan Yusuf Osman and the Mayor of Gabiley Mahamed-Amin Omer Abdi, visited Sweden and met with senior Swedish Parliamentarians.
The delegation undertook a series of meetings with Swedish Parliament, discussed on strengthening the relationship between the two countries and cooperation on many fronts including Somaliland’s quest for international recognition, security and good governance. Discussions explored the possibility of increased Swedish development assistance and investment in Somaliland.
Somaliland’s Representative to Sweden, Ambassador Zakariye Hassan Wacays and Somaliland’s special envoy to the European Union Mikael Torstensson was in attendance as well.
The Vice-minister and his delegation thanked for the warm welcome and for the significant role played by the Swedish government in the development of Somaliland.According to the Somaliland Foreign Ministry.
ON June 14, 2017, the Swedish parliament launches All-Party Parliamentary group on Somaliland to promoting Somaliland’s relationship with Sweden, chairman of the group MP Magnus Oscarsson, the Vice Chairman MP Daniel Bäckström.
Somaliland has gained considerable attention across the world, including in Scandinavia. In Sweden, one of the first EU nations to recognize Palestine and one which has also been toying with the recognition of Western Sahara, several forces pushing for recognizing Somaliland have emerged.
