Horndiplomat-Somaliland Foreign Minister Dr. Saad Ali Shire took advantage of his recent trip to the UK to meet with parliamentarians and other state officials, to pay a visit to the Taiwanese Ambassador H.E David Y.L. Lin at the Taipei Representative Office in London. The Minister was accompanied by the Somaliland representative the U.K Ali A. Awale, while the Taiwanese Ambassador was flanked by Alex Y, H. Huang, from the political affairs division. According the Somaliland’s Foreign ministry Press Statement.
Both the Somaliland and Taiwan share a common experience of facing challenges in asserting their sovereignty on the international stage and the Minister and Ambassador had much to discuss in terms of political affairs and bilateral relations. The Ambassador expressed the unconditional and enduring support of the government of Taiwan to the cause of Somaliland and vowed that this support would continue. The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for the support the Taiwanese government provided to the Republic of Somaliland, including the recent donation of fifty computers to Universities in Somaliland and the granting of educational scholarships to Somaliland students. They discussed the impact of the technical and educational support to Somaliland and the Minister received assurances of Taiwan’s continued support in these areas.
The Ambassador was also eager to discuss the exciting developments at Berbera Port and noted the Taiwanese government’s interest in exploring opportunities to invest in Somaliland. The Minister and Ambassador noted their common desire to see economic and trade linkages flourish and looked forward to strengthening and improving the strong ties which already existed between the two countries.
